Geocache 02 – 91311

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

N 34° 16.496 W 118° 38.491

Terrain: Wide fire road. Quite an incline but a popular route for mountain bikers.
Cache Difficulty (1 – 5 being the hardest): Level 1.5
Location: Chatsworth, CA 91311

Notes: This cache is in Chatsworth’s beautiful Rocky Peak. This mountain was once owned by Bob Hope! Alas, Mr. Hope sold this property in the 70’s. This is a heavily traveled hiking spot. Bring plenty of water and watch out for rattle snakes and big cats. There are many geocaches in this area so check with geocaching.com if you want to make a day of it. I am on there as Captain T. Morgan. Be sure to leave a comment in this page after you’ve hunted for it!

Hints: Hummingbird Trail…

Here is my brother Fred and his girlfriend Kerri.  We made an afternoon of geocaching at Rocky Peak.  This is a manmade cave off the main trail.

This week I have been very busy over the fire in Santa Barbara otherwise known as the Jesusita Fire.  We wrongly thought they had a handle on this fire the first day, but then heavy winds kicked up the next day and we watched this fire devastate many homes.  This is a picture from the first day (Cinco de Mayo) at a distance and 4000 feet.

Looking the other direction over Carpinteria you can see the coastline with no evidence of the fire burning to the west.

Here is the vantage while we were inbound to Santa Barbara Airport.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost their homes this week by this fire.  I suffered a house fire a long time ago, so I personally understand how quickly you can lose everything… and how long it can take to pick up the pieces and move forward.  Oh, and thanks to all our firefighters out there heroically battling this fire, YOU GUYS ROCK!

On a lighter note, I have posted my first geocache.  I will be out this weekend leaving more.  I am gonna drag my brother, whom is visiting from Hawaii, along whether he likes it or not!  ;)     Get your GPSr’s ready!

One major story kept us busy today.  Every May 1st is May Day in downtown Los Angeles where thousands take to the streets to support immigrants rights.  Two years ago, this protest resulted in the May Day riots.  Today we saw those numbers dwindle… fear of the swine flu maybe?  Nonetheless, here we are in action.

This is what I see…

And in Los Angeles there is ALWAYS breaking news, after we covered May Day and an assault story, we had a 4.4 earthquake in Westlake Village!  Never felt a thing.
