Happy Holidays Everybody!
Busy as usual… what else is new? I celebrated my birthday last weekend with all my favorite people (you know who you are!), I felt so blessed and wanted to express how very important you all are to me! Thanks for the calls, presents, cards, two homemade birthday cakes and the love! Oh, and thanks to Brian for calling and SINGING Happy Birthday to me (cha, cha, cha), LOL!
I would like to share my most recent visit to a few ghost towns off highway 395. I just love the desert!
Here we are at Red Mountain. This ghost town still boasts quite a few of it’s remains. My friend and I pose next to massive equipment abandoned from a huge underground mining area.
Large mills, like this one, riddle the land. Keep in mind, that areas like this are extremely dangerous and not advised for amateur exploration. There are also numerous holes exposing the underground tunneling system created as they mined the area. It’s the underground tunnels that get people into trouble when exploring. Many cave in when subjected to the pressure of a human body. We kept to the main road as we looked around.
Funny story, before we ended up at Red Mountain, we found a “mine cavity”. I ducked into it just to take a look. Apparently, it was home to a large white owl that was spooked when I entered. The owl jumped out of the shadows and spread it’s wings as it came swooping at me. I ducked, and the owl used my head to launch out into the open sunlight.
You would look like this too…
The best stuff happens when the camera ISN’T rolling! Here is the riveting interview:
Maybe next time I’ll learn to keep the camera on.
